Baseball Gears Up For AMCC Tournament

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend baseball team will begin their quest for a sixth Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championship when they travel to No. 1 seed La Roche on Thursday.

The tournament will begin on Thursday, May 11 and conclude on Saturday the 13th. The Lions locked up the No. 2 seed after splitting with the Redhawks in the conference finale on April 29. Behrend will kick the AMCC tournament off with a 1 p.m. start against No. 6 Mt. Aloysius.

David Boehme (Venetia, PA/Seton-Le Salle), Brian Bohman (Erie, PA/McDowell), Mason McGuire (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair), and Scott Sada (Saegertown, PA/Saegertown) have been the leaders on offense all season. The four have combined for a .344 average in the heart of the order with McGuire leading the way at .358.

Sada holds a .355 average and is the team-leader in hits (49), doubles (15), triples (3), home runs (5), and RBI (38). He's also second in the AMCC in stolen bases with 17 and, on the mound, is tied for most saves in the conference with four.

In the past 12 games, Bohman has hit .478 with 22 hits and 16 runs scored. Kyle Lewis (McMurray, PA/Peters Township) has also been hot at the plate recently. The sophomore has collected 15 hits in his last 10 games and is now 17-for-46 (.370 avg.) at the plate this season.

On the mound, Jack Herzing (St. Mary's, PA/Elk County Catholic), Phil Myers (DuBois, PA/DuBois Central Catholic), and Justin Rohrer (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) have combined for over half of the total innings pitched this season and a 3.31 ERA.

The three Lions starters are all in the top five in strikeouts in the AMCC. Herzing leads the way with 67, followed by Rohrer, who has 60 and Myers, who sits fifth with 49.

Myers has been stellar on the mound all season for Behrend. He holds a team-leading and is second in the conference with a 1.91 ERA. He is also second in innings pitched, behind Rohrer (64.2) with 61.1 and has thrown four complete games.

Erik Mikulan (Pittsburgh, PA/Hampton) has 12 appearances on the mound this season, starting in one, and holds a 4-2 record in 26.2 innings of work.
