Drew Scores Late to Defeat Behrend

FORT PIERCE, Fl. - The Penn State Behrend baseball team fell to Drew, 8-7, Saturday afternoon to wrap up their spring training trip in the Sunshine State.

The Rangers (8-2) were held off the scoreboard until the fifth inning, but managed to score eight late runs to erase a 6-0 Lions (6-6) lead.

Behrend jumped on Drew early with five first-inning runs. Ryan Hamm (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) doubled to score Brandon Bergstrom (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny), who reached first with a leadoff walk. Scott Sada (Saegertown, PA/Saegertown), David Boehme (Venetia, PA/Seton-La Salle), and Brian Bohman (Erie, PA/McDowell) all came around to score after each recording hits.

The Lions added one more run to their lead in the fourth when Ben Ramey (Export, PA/Franklin Regional) trotted home after Sada drew a bases-loaded walk.

Drew then added four runs in the fifth with the help of three hits and two Behrend errors to begin their comeback. The following inning, the Rangers added two more to tie the game.

The Lions jumped ahead again in the seventh when Boehme scored on a wild pitch. Drew anwered with two runs in the eighth to take their final lead of the game and making it an 8-7 game.

Hamm and Bohman each tallied three hits on the day after both going 3-for-5 from the plate.

Sada picked up a team-high three RBIs. 

Behrend will be back in action on Sunday, March 19 when they travel to New Concord, OH for a two-game set. Game one will be against Hiram at noon followed by a 3:30 game against Muskingum.
