Allegheny Takes Two From Baseball in Non-Conference Action

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend baseball team took on Allegheny Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader, losing a pair of games, 3-1 and 4-2.

The Gators (17-10) took an early 2-0 lead in game one before the Lions (15-14) cut the lead in half, plating a run in the bottom of the second. Ryan Hamm (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) got things going with a single to center.

With one out, David Boehme (Venetia, PA/Seton-La Salle) drew a walk to put Hamm in scoring position. Kyle Lewis (McMurray, PA/Peters Township) hit a rope over the third baseman's head to make it a 2-1 ball game.

Justin Rohrer (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) pitched four innings after getting the start on the mound. He struck out five and allowed just four hits.

After three scoreless innings, Allegheny struck in the top of the sixth to bring their lead back to two runs. With two outs, Austin Bristol singled to center to plate their third run.

Brian Bohman (Erie, PA/McDowell) finished the game going 3-for4 from the dish with three singles and Lewis went a perfect 3-for-3.

Bohman continued to stay hot in game two, singling in Zach Murray (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) to break the scoring open in the bottom of the third. Murray singled to get the inning going and stole second and third base.

The following inning, the Gators tied things up with a single to left.

With the game knotted at 1-all, Allegheny plated two more runs on two hits to take a 3-1 lead.

In the bottom half of the fifth, Boehme doubled to deep center to score Bohman from first and cut the Gator lead to one, 3-2. However, Allegheny plated one more run and held Behrend off for the final six outs.

Murray finished the game with two hits at one run scored.

The Lions will be back in action tomorrow for another non-conference game against Fredonia beginning at 4 p.m. on the Behrend diamond.
