Men's Track and Field Competes at Kenyon Classic

GAMBIER, Ohio - The Penn State Behrend men's track and field team competed in the Kenyon Classic on Saturday afternoon.

John Cerminara (Williamsburg, VA/Jamestown) and Conor MacMannis (Fredericksburg, VA/Kubeszki) led the Lions with two first place finishes.  Cerminara won the shot put with a distance of 14.48m.  MacMannis took first in the triple jump with a distance of 12.71m.

Sophomore runner Billy Cvecko (Erie, PA/McDowell) continued his excellent season in the 800m run.  Cvecko crossed the finish line at 1:58.54 for second place.

In the pole vault, Garrett Shaw (Saxonburg, PA/Knoch) and Matthew Miller (South Park, PA/South Park) took third and fourth place respectively.  Shaw cleared 4.27m while Miller got over 4.11m

In the long distance runs, the Lions had five runners in the top ten.  Jason Zabelsky (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) took third in the 5000m with a time of 16:39.75.  Behrend then dominated the 3000m run.  Denis Lydon (Plum, PA/Plum) led the Lions with a fourth place finish and a time of 9:18.97.  Andrew Mason (Wilmington, DE/Concord) took seventh with a time of 9:47.41. David Nguyen (Yorba Linda, CA/Esperanza) took ninth place with a time of 9:49.14 while Tim Karls (Butler, PA/Butler) was close behind in 10th place crossing the finish line at 10:10.63.

Mason then turned to the one mile run.  The freshman distance runner took sixth place with a time of 4:42.84.

Back in the field events, Kyle Whitley (Edinboro, PA/General McLane) took sixth place in the long jump. Whitley cleared 5.75m.

The Kenyon Classic wrapped up the indoor regular season for Behrend.  The Lions will now prepare for the ECAC indoor championships in New York City on March 2.
