Behrend Falls to Allegheny

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny women's swimming and diving team defeated Penn State Behrend 117-92 in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

Meghan Wade (Berea, OH/Berea) tallied two individual wins for the Lions, capturing the one-meter and three-meter diving events. Wade recorded a score of 223.93 in the 1m and then collected a 257.65 for the 3m to take first place. Emily Frederick (Russell, PA/Eisenhower) came in second in the 1m (176.15) for Behrend.

Hilary MacManus (Beaver Falls, PA/Blachhawk) was the top swimmer in the 100 free with a time of 1:00.02, while Jamie Boyle (Sarver, PA/Freeport) took second in 1:05.57 and Emily Merkle was third in 1:15.00.

The Lions grabbed seven more second places on the day, starting with the 200 medley relay. Julie Cook (Warren, PA/Warren), MaryEllen Spooner (Lockhaven, PA/West Springfield), Anne Lawrence (State College, PA/State College) and MacManus posted a time of 1:59.96 for runner up.

Individually, Lawrence earned second in the 200 fly (2:26.30) and in the third in the 200 IM (2:24.13). Cook had the same results but in the 200 breaststroke and the 50 free. Her time of 2:45.63 was good for second in the breaststroke and she took third in the freestyle (27.64). MacManus led the team in the 50 free with a best time of 26.96.

Spooner and Jesse Dunleavy (McMurray, PA/Peters Township) also recorded individual second-place finishes. Spooner clocked in at 2:21.36 in the 200 backstroke and Dunleavy had a time of 5:52.29 in the 500 freestyle.

The final relay of Spooner, Boyle, Dunleavy and Katie Siffrinn (Canonsburg, PA/Canon-McMillian) tallied a time of 1:50.69 in the 200 free relay.

Behrend returns to action next Saturday against St. Vincent. Meet time is 1 p.m.
