Westminster Makes a Splash Over Behrend

ERIE, Pa. – The Westminster women's swimming and diving team won 11 out of 16 events to defeat Penn State Behrend 171-101 in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Junker Center.

Diver Meghan Wade was a double winner for the Lions, capturing both diving events. She posted a score of 220.75 on the one-meter board to defeat Maddie Kincade of Westminster by 30 points. Wade also won the three-meter competition by three points exactly with a 173.35 total.

Katie Siffrinn and Anne Lawrence recorded individual wins in the 200 IM and the 100 butterfly, respectfully. Siffrinn won with a time of 2:30.40 and Lawrence clocked in at 1:02.71 for first place. Lawrence was two seconds shy of winning the 200 butterfly, taking second in 2:18.75.

In the backstroke events, Spooner led the way with second place in the 100 back (1:06.90) and third in the 200 back (2:25.42). The same goes for Julie Cook, but in the breaststroke. She had her best finish in the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.20 and then placed third in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:39.57.

Hilary MacManus tallied Behrend's best time in the 50 free, touching in 26.32 for second place.

The final 400 free relay earned 11 points for the Lions. Lawrence, Cook, Spooner and Siffrinn combined for a time of 4:02.50.

The Lions return to action on Saturday, January 14 against Penn State Altoona. Meet time is 2 p.m.
