Lions Win Sixth Consecutive AMCC Championship

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's swimming and diving team continues their dominance with a sixth consecutive Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championship.

The Lions finished with an overall score of 301 to remain the only conference team to have won the hardware since the beginning of the championships.  Cabrini came in second place with a score of 107, almost 200 points less than Behrend.

Senior Anne Lawrence (State College, PA/State College), the 2011 AMCC Swimmer of the Year, earned the women's highest-point award to cap her swimming career. She solidified that honor with another win, this time in the 200 butterfly in 2:16.08. 

MaryEllen Spooner (Lockhaven, PA/West Springfield) and Julie Cook (Warren, PA/Warren) not only won their individual events but they also broke three records in the process. Spooner set the AMCC open, AMCC meet and team record in the preliminaries with a time of 2:13.52 and then reset it in the finals with a time of 2:11.30.

Cook did the same thing as Spooner in the 200 breaststroke. All three records were broke twice. She won the event with a final time of 2:32.82.

Meghan Wade (Berea, OH/Berea), the champion of the one-meter diving, won the three-meter event with a score of 336.10.

Katie Siffrinn (Canonsburg, PA/Canon-McMillan) took second in the 200 backstroke behind Spooner with a time of 2:19.93. Hilary MacManus (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk) and Jesse Dunleavy (McMurray, PA/Peters Township) were also runners up on the night. MacManus came in second in the conference in the 100 free (56.67) and Dunleavy was second in the 1650 free (19:45.04).
