Women's Swimming and Diving Falls to Mt. Union

ERIE, Pa. - The Penn State Behrend women's swimming and diving team fell to Mt. Union by a score of 133-82 on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.

In the opening event of the day, the team of MaryEllen Spooner (Lockhaven, PA/West Springfield), Julie Cook (Warren, PA/Warren), Anne Lawrence (State College, PA/State College), and Hilary MacManus (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk) took second in the 200 yard medley relay. The squad clocked in with a time of 1:57.16, less than a second off the lead.

Individually, MacManus, Lawrence, and Spooner each had second place finishes as well. MacManus finished the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 26.38.  In the 100 yard butterfly, Lawrence, the lone Behrend swimmer in the event, came in at 1:04.04.  Spooner wrapped up a strong 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:05.90, just behind the winning time of 1:05.29.

On the diving board, Meghan Wade (Berea, OH/Berea) won both the one meter and the three meter competition.  Wade had a total score of 227.80 in the one meter and 221.90 in the three meter.

The Lions will be back in action on Saturday for the Blue/White meet at 1 p.m.
