Behrend Track and Field Sweeps CSAC Weekly Honors

ERIE, Pa. - The Penn State Behrend men's and women's track & field teams had four athletes named Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Athlete of the Week after their weekend at the John Homon Open hosted by Mount Union.

Matthew Grafton (Worthington, PA/Kittanning) and Rachel Pell (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward) took home the track athlete of the week honor while Luke Patten (West Middlesex, PA/West Middlesex) and Haley Yenchik (Cecil, PA/Canon McMillan) earned field athletes of the week.  

Grafton had an ECAC-qualifying and CSAC-best time in the 100 meter dash, placing fourth after sprinting to an 11.03 second finish. He also raced in the 200 meter, coming in seventh after posting a time of 22.47 seconds. Grafton ran a leg in the 4x400 race, helping his team place fifth with an ECAC-qualifying time of 3:23.45.

Pell won the 400m hurdles and broke a nine year old school record by running a 1:04.49. That not only ranks her first in the CSAC, but first in the NCAA Mid-East Region, fourth in the ECAC, and 27th in the NCAA. Pell also placed eighth in the 100m hurdles.

Patten won the pole vault after posting a height of 4.81 meters (15' 9.25"), an event which he continues to lead the CSAC in. He then went to the triple jump where he leaped 12.86 meters (42' 2.25"), which places him third in the CSAC.

Yenchik competed in the pole vault, earning fifth after posting a height of 3.36 meters (11'0.25"). In the triple jump, she posted a distance of 10.16 meters (33'4") to earn seventh place. She also ran a leg in the 4x100 relay, helping the team take first place with a time of 49.40. All three events are ranked first in the CSAC.
