ERIE, Pa. – A double-double from Zane Hackett (Brookville, PA/Brookville) helped catapult the Penn State Behrend men's basketball team past D'Youville 82-42 on Wednesday night at the Junker Center.
Hackett finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds in the first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) game for both squads.
After the teams exchanged buckets for the first five minutes, the Lions (4-1, 1-0 AMCC) blew past the Spartans, taking a 42-20 advantage into the break.
Behrend produced another stellar defensive effort, holding D'Youville (0-7, 0-1 AMCC) to just 13 made field goals and 22.0 percent shooting in the contest.
And when the Spartans tried to press, the Lions made them pay. Behrend outscored D'Youville by a staggering 50-10 margin in the paint. Many of those Lions points came on layups.
Freshman Wes Davic (Grafton, OH/Midview) and Jordan Grabowski (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) also had career nights for Behrend. Davic scored 11 points to go along with seven boards, and Grabowski scored eight points with five rebounds, four assists, and a steal.
Chris Dudzenski (Latrobe, PA/Latrobe) finished with a career-high seven boards, and Keith Wallace (Erie, PA/Central Tech) filled up his stat sheet with 12 points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
The Lions dominated yet another opponent on the glass, out-rebounding the Spartans 63-34.
Behrend will travel to take on Mt. Aloysius on December 7 at 1 p.m.
