Quick Start Lifts Men's Swimming and Diving Past Altoona

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team dominated the first seven events to defeat Penn State Altoona 117-86 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday.

The Lions took 1-2-3 in a pair of events, starting with the 200 medley relay. The winning team consisted of Mark Patterson (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin), Ty Elder (Brentwood, CA/Heritage), Victor Nguyen (San Jose, CA/Evergreen Valley) and Nick Roth (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin). They posted a time of 1:42.56.

Matt Myers (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) led the 200 freestyle where Behrend swept the top three places. He won in 1:55.60 followed by Elder in second (1:59.71) and Dillon Scheidemantle (Mars, PA/Pine-Richland) in third (2:03.85).

In addition to sweeping two events, Ryan Siggins (Erie, PA/Iroquois) was the lone swimmer with two individual wins on the day. He was first in the 50 free (23.67) and in the 100 free (51.81). Elder earned second in the free with a close time of 23.71.

Nikos Koufos (Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburgh) touched first in the 1000 free. He had a winning time of 11:23.96.

In addition to the opening relay, Patterson and Nguyen had individual wins. Patterson recorded a time of 58.21 in the 100 backstroke for first and Nguyen hit the wall at 1:03.28 to win the 100 breaststroke.

The Lions return to action in two weeks at the Fredonia Blue Devil Invitational.
