Lions Defeat Edinboro, Fall To Allegheny

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's tennis team split a pair of non-conference matches at the Westwood Racquet Club on Saturday. The Lions fell to Allegheny 9-0 in the first match, before posting an 8-1 over Edinboro.

Leslie Durante and Jade Buhite did not lose a single game point in the win against the Fighting Scots. Durante, playing at No. 4 singles, blanked Lauren McKenna 6-0, 6-0 and Buhite did the same at No. 6 singles.

Behrend swept the singles, only giving up seven points total. Arica Christman defeated Hannah Boyer 6-0, 6-1, while Stephanie Cattron was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at No. 2 singles. Hillary Lasher also won at the no. 3 spot by a score of 6-0, 6-1.

The Lions took the early 2-1 lead after doubles, getting wins from Elissa Schwartz and Megan Flinchbaugh at No. 1 in extra sets (9-8). Casey Smith and Rachel Harris picked up the second doubles win, 8-1.

Against Allegheny, the Gators won all three doubles and six singles matches for the win.

Behrend returns to action on March 7 against St. Joseph's in Hilton Head, S.C. Match begins at 12 p.m.
