Lions Top Altoona in AMCC Action

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women’s tennis team split a tri-match on Saturday afternoon, defeating conference opponent Penn State Altoona 8-1 before falling to Division II Mercyhurst 9-0 in the nightcap.

The Lions (10-3) increased their winning streak to six matches with the convincing win over Altoona before being snapped by the Lakers.  Arica Christman and Allison Quigley were the two double winners on the day for Behrend.

Christman shut out Leah Beilhart at No. 1 singles and joined Steph Cattron for an 8-2 doubles victory. Quigley was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at fifth singles and also at No. 2 doubles along with Jade Buhite.

Against the Lions, Behrend won all three doubles matches and surrendered the only game at No. 2 singles, which was deciding in a tie-breaking set. Leslie Durante was the third player to post a shut-out win at No. 4.

Against Mercyhurst, the Lakers were able to post 8-4, 8-4 and 8-1 wins in doubles action before sweeping the singles competition.

The Lions return to action on Tuesday at Grove City. Match begins at 3:30 p.m.
