ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend baseball team dropped game one of a scheduled doubleheader against conference foe La Roche, 8-6. Game two was delayed with a 2-2 score after going four innings.
After gaining a quick 2-0 lead, the Lions (17-9, 9-4 AMCC) gave up a Redhawk (21-6, 10-3) run at the top of the second inning, 2-1.
Behrend responded posting two more runs in the third thanks to a Ryan Kragnes single which scored Rich Doyle and Josh Barbara, 4-1.
Pitching strong through four, Ryan Jacobs gave up three runs to La Roche to knot the game at 4-all.
In the bottom of the fifth, Ryan Geibel popped up with at sacrifice fly that scored Matt Bittner and push the Lion lead to 6-4.
Down two runs in the seventh, the Redhawks tallied four runs on five hits en route to an 8-6 victory.
Pavlik went 2-for-4 with three RBIs in the game-one loss. Chad Zurat recorded the loss after taking over for Jacobs in the fifth. Zurat allowed five hits, four runs (two earned), while striking out two batters.
Game two was suspended due to lightning and ran in the fifth inning with the score tied 2-all.
