ERIE, Pa. – Matt Bittner received NCAA Division III National Player of the Week honors after a stellar regular-season ending performance for the Penn State Behrend baseball team. It is the first time he has earned this award.

The sophomore third baseman and Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Player of the Week (AMCC), went 10-for-14 (.625) from the plate in a 4-0 week for the Lions (21-10, 13-5 AMCC) including two doubles, a triple, and three crucial home runs to earn Hitter of the Week accolades. With a 1.643 slugging percentage, Bittner helped Behrend to two wins over conference foes, Medaille and Pitt-Bradford. He scored eight runs and brought in 15 more to secure the third seed in the (AMCC) playoffs.

The weekly award is voted on by a panel of D-III members of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Howser Award Player of the Year, Regional Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting.
