Compton Sets Three Records in 400 IM; Lions Stay in Second Place at Championships

ROCHESTER, NY – Tim Compton (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) set a new team record, and an AMCC Meet and AMCC Open record while winning the 400 IM for the third straight year at the 2024 Allegheny Empire Championships on Friday.

Combined Men's Scores: 1. Hartwick (706), 2. Penn State Behrend (677.50), 3. Alfred (669), 4. Alfred State (632), 5. Nazareth (397), 6. Penn State Altoona (391.50), 7. Pitt-Bradford (226), 8. Wells (2)

Noteworthy:

* Compton got the three-peat in the 400 IM and set three records with a new time of 4:01.54
* Anthony Tumino (Hershey, PA/Hershey) and Will Perham (Upper St. Clair, PA/Upper St. Clair) were also individual winners on the night
* Tumino was crowned the AMCC Champion for the first time in the 100 backstroke with a time of 51.48
* Glenn Fowkes (Vandergrift, PA/Kiski Area) was a close second in the conference and third overall in the 100 backstroke in 52.17
* In the 100 breaststroke, Perham repeated as the AMCC Champion with a time of 56.74 while placing second overall
* After taking second in the 400 medley relay last year, Fowkes, Perham, Compton and Tumino pulled out the victory in 3:25.15 to hoist their gold medals with a team record
* In the 200 free, Jax Abele (Erie, PA/Iroquois) was the AMCC runner up in 1:48.18 and finished seventh overall
* Diver Jacob Earley (Erie, PA/Harbor Creek) took fourth in the 1-meter finals (327.30) and Ryan Willis (State College, PA/State College) also tallied fourth-place finish but in the 100 butterfly (53.57)
* Ronan Murphy (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia) finished fifth in the 100 butterfly (53.61)

* Behrend returns to the water tomorrow for the final day of the AMCC Empire Championships. Prelims begin at 10 a.m. with finals at 5 p.m.
