Six Behrend Student-Athletes Earn AMCC Weekly Honors

ERIE, Pa. – Six Penn State Behrend student-athletes were selected Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Athletes of the Week.

Women's basketball sophomore Morgan Altavilla (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) claimed Player of the Week honors, shooting 62.5 percent from the floor with an average of 28.5 points per game in a pair of conference wins this past week. She went 15-for-22 against Mt. Aloysius for a new career-high 36 points, while adding nine assists and four steals against the Mounties. Altavilla also averaged 8.5 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals on the week.

Freshman swimmer Camryn Watters (Greensburg, PA/Hempfield) had a hand in five meters records being broken at Nazareth on Saturday. She set two records in relays, while winning the 100 backstroke in a record time of 1:09.11 and then set the 50 backstroke record in the lead off for the 200 medley relay (33.18) to notch Women's Swimmer of the Week.

Fellow freshman swimmer Glenn Fowkes (Vandergrift, PA/Kiski Area) was the lone winner vs. Gannon, touching first in the 100 backstroke (54.27) and then setting three meters team records vs. Nazareth on Saturday. Fowkes set the record by winning the 100 backstroke (1:00.26), 200 backstroke (2:14.84) and swimming in the winning and record breaking 200 medley relay (1:50.1) to secure Men's Swimmer of the Week.

Women's indoor track & field senior Madison Kappeler (Cecil, PA/Canon-McMillan) placed sixth in the pole vault with a height of 10-5 ½ at Mount Union to register Women's Field Athlete of the Week. She was also a member of the 4x2 relay team notched a second-place finish with a time of 1:52.56.

Men's indoor track & field senior Samuel Hetrick (New Bethlehem, PA/Redbank Valley) tallied a runner-up score of 6-5 ½ in the high jump at the Jim Wuske Invitational for Men's Field Athlete of the Week.

Freshman men's indoor track & field athlete Jake Egizio (Canonsburg, PA/Canon-McMillan) was named Track Athlete of the Week, crossing the finish line in 22.74 for a second-place finish in the 200 dash. He was also a member of the 4x2 relay team that was victorious with a time of 1:33.71 at Mount Union Saturday.
