ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's water polo team kicks off their season on Friday, starting the year at home against LaSalle at 7 p.m. Opening weekend will continue through Sunday with the Lions taking on Mercyhurst and Wittenberg on Saturday and Iona on Sunday as a part of the Curtis Robinette Memorial Invite.

* The Lions will hit the water for the first time this season, following an 8-18 record last year
* The eight wins ties a program record for most wins in a season
* Behrend returns two All-Americans in Shannon Young (Roseville, CA/Roseville) and Marley Persch (Hudsonville, PA/Hudsonville)
* Young was named an Honorable Mention for the second straight year, while Persch was also the CWPA Rookie of the Year
* Young, Persch and Emily McNaughton (Wexford, PA/Pine-Richland) were named to the All-CWPA team in 2022
* Young and Persch each led the team in goals with 47 apiece
* Head coach Joe Tristan returns after being named CWPA Coach of the Year
