Lions Take Down Penn State Altoona

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's basketball team had three players in double figures to defeat Penn State Altoona 63-43 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions (4-4, 2-2 AMCC) closed out their last conference game of 2015 with a win thanks to holding the Altoona Lions (2-5, 2-2 AMCC) to just 15 points in the first half and getting a double-double from Dani Reinwald (Clymer, NY/Clymer Central). Reinwald tallied a game-high 17 points and a season-best 18 boards.

Rachael Razzano (New Castle, PA/New Castle) matched a career-high with 11 points and Erika Woll (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) added 10 points.

Shannon Zimmerman was the leading scorer for Altoona with 10 points and three blocks.

In addition to using the first half to take a commanding 38-15 lead, Behrend also held a 60-38 advantage in rebounds.

Razzano and Reinwald each scored six points in the first quarter to give the Lions a cushion after the opening 10 minutes of play. Razzano drained a triple with 43 seconds left in the first quarter for a 16-5 lead. Altoona added just two more point on free throws for an 18-7 lead.

A Razzano layup to start the second stanza put the Lions up by double digits that would stay through the entire quarter. Behrend held Altoona without a field goal for nearly three minutes and it took three minutes later for the Lions to take a 20-point lead on Heidi Langhorst's (Corapolis, PA/Our Lady Sacred Heart) layup at 32-12.

The strong defense in the first half kept Altoona from having a come-back chance in the second half.

Langhorst finished two points shy of double digits with eight points and Nicole Boyer (Blairsville, PA/Blairsville) pulled down a season-high seven boards.

Behrend returns to action on Tuesday, December 29 against Wisconsin-Stout at the Music City Classic in Nashville, TN. The game begins at 9 p.m.
