Woll, Goetz Lift Behrend Past Hilbert in Fourth

HAMBURG, NY – The Penn State Behrend women's basketball team nearly scored half of its points in the fourth quarter with 35 in the final period to defeat Hilbert 75-66 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Wednesday.

Ali Goetz (Mars, PA/Mars) and Erika Woll (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) combined for 28 of the 35 points scored to give the Lions (14-10, 12-5 AMCC) post their second win over the Hawks (10-14, 6-11 AMCC) this season.

Goetz tallied 17 of her 19 points in the fourth, knocking down all three pointers to help Behrend pull away from Hilbert. Woll, who tied her season best with 21 points, tallied 11 in the final quarter.

Three points separated the two teams last meeting and this contest seemed no different through the first three quarters. The Hawks took a four-point lead into the third and used back-to-back baskets from Wyann Jackson, including a three-pointer for their largest advantage at 46-37 with 1:07 left.

Woll answered with a triple of her own to make it 46-40 with the last 10 minutes remaining. Goetz scored the first eight out of 12 points, ending with a trey at the 5:54 mark to put the Lions back on top at 52-51.

Behrend kept a small lead and did not miss a free-throw shot in the last two minutes of the game, going 12-for-12 to from the charity stripe to fend off the Hawks. Woll registered eight of those free throws and Goetz completed the other four.

Dani Reinwald (Clymer, NY/Clymer Central) recorded yet another double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Heidi Langhorst (Corapolis, PA/Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) posted a season-high 17 points off the bench.

Hilbert had four players in double figures, led by Kelsi Ebert with 18 points.

As a team, the Lions held the Hawks to just 29 rebounds while they pulled down 46 boards.

Behrend returns to action on Saturday against Pitt-Greensburg at Mt. Aloysius. Game time is 8 p.m.
