Big Fourth Quarter Lifts Women's Basketball Past Altoona

ERIE, Pa. – Dani Reinwald (Clymer, NY/Clymer) and Heidi Langhorst (Corapolis, PA/Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) each tallied double-doubles to lead Penn State Behrend women's basketball team to a 71-55 victory over Penn State Altoona in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday.

Erika Woll (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) led with a game-best 19 points, draining a career-high five three-pointers to the Lions (10-10, 8-5 AMCC) complete the season sweep of the Altoona Lions (3-16, 3-10 AMCC). Woll, who went from averaging 6.2 points in the first nine games to 15.0 points in the next nine, continues to step up this second part of conference action while playing nearly 35 minutes each contest.

Reinwald tallied her 13th double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds, while Langhorst dropped 12 points and 11 rebounds for her second of the season.

The Altoona Lions got 15 points and 16 rebounds from Megan Wheeler, while two others were in double-figure scoring.

Both teams entered the second quarter with 13 points apiece, but the Behrend Lions went on a 7-0 run to take the lead for good. Ali Goetz (Mars, PA/Mars) and Reinwald sandwiched field goals around a Woll trey for a 20-13 advantage.

That lead grew to double digits with 3:12 left after a Sadie Zielinski (Erie, PA/Harbor Creek) jumper. The five-point lead Behrend took at halftime is the same lead they would have at the end of the third quarter due to both teams scoring 19 points in that period.

The Behrend Lions pulled away in the fourth and ended the quarter on a 10-4 run, eventually outscoring the Altoona Lions 21-10 for the 16-point win.

Goetz tied her season high with eight rebounds and added six points, three assists and two steals.

Behrend returns to action on Saturday at Franciscan. Game time is 4 p.m.
