Mounties Hold Off Women's Basketball

CRESSON, Pa. - Breana Kendrick came off the bench to score a game-high 16 points, making clutch free throws down the stretch to lead Mt. Aloysius past Penn State Behrend 60-52 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday afternoon.

Kendrick went 4-for-4 from the line while Abby Kulick scored six of the Mounties (8-7, 5-3 AMCC) final 11 points to snap the Lions (6-8, 4-3 AMCC) three-game winning streak. Kulick finsihed with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Behrend got a team-best 15 points from Ali Goetz (Mars, PA/Mars) and Dani Reinwald (Clymer, NY/Clymer Central) added eight points and 15 boards.

Mt. Aloysius broke open a close first half, where the Mounties held a one-point lead after two quarters at 22-20. Mt. Aloysius went on a 12-5 run in the third quarter, closing it with a triple from Alexia Servello for a nine-point advantage with 3:17 left in the period.

The Mounties never relinquished the lead, but had to hold off a strong finish by Behrend and six points from Reinwald to get within one at 46-45 with 3:51 remaining in the contest.

Mt. Aloysius scored the next five points and Sadie Zielinski (Erie, PA/Harbor Creek) answered with a three-pointer to make it four-point game. After Kulick's final field goal, the Mounties secured the win from the line, going 6-for-7 in the final minute.

The Lions held a 52-44 advantage on the boards and knocked down a season-best eight three-pointers.

Behrend returns to action on Monday against Hilbert. Game time is 8 p.m.
