Whitman Defeats Women's Basketball in Nashville

NASHVILLE, TN – The Whitman women's basketball team defeated Penn State Behrend 57-39 in the second game of the Music City Classic on Wednesday night in Nashville, Tennessee.

Whitman (9-1) broke open their three-point lead after the first quarter for an eight-point advantage at halftime (31-23) and stayed out front for its ninth win of the season. Casey Poe had a team-high 15 points, four assists and three steals.

Sophomore Dani Reinwald (Clymer, NY/Clymer Central) scored more than half of the Lions (4-6) points, knocking down a game- and season-best 21 points and 10 rebounds marking her ninth double-double out of 10 games this year.

Reinwald tallied 15 points in the first half, including six in the first quarter. She sandwiched a pair of  baskets and two from the line around triples from Ali Goetz (Mars, PA/Mars) and Fontaine Glenn (West Sunbury, PA/Moniteau) to face a one-point deficit at 13-12 in the opening quarter.

Behrend scored all but two points of its in the second quarter from the charity stripe. Reinwald was responsible for all 11 points in the 10 minutes, including seven free throws to start for a 19-17 lead with 6:30 left to play.

A 14-4 run by Whitman helped them regain the lead for good heading into halftime. Hailey Ann Maeda made it a permanent double-digit game with the first basket of the third quarter.

The Lions shot a season-high 91.7 percent from the free-throw line (11-for-12).

Behrend returns to action on Tuesday against Carnegie Mellon. Game time is 6 p.m.
