Oswego State Nips Women's Soccer in Overtime

FREDONIA, NY – Alex Restante scored the game-winning goal in the 92nd minute to help Oswego State edge the Penn State Behrend women's soccer team 2-1 in the first game of the Fredonia Blue Devil Classic on Friday afternoon.

The Lakers (2-0) rallied back from a one-goal deficit, scoring in the 69th minute and again with 1:11 gone in the first overtime for their second straight win. Chloe Lonergan notched the first goal, while Restante gathered the ball that came off the crossbar from a direct kick less than two minutes into the extra period.

For the second straight game, Amanda Donohue (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) netted the only goal for the Lions (2-2). After a defensive and scoreless first half, Donohue got Behrend on the board with her second goal of the season off a double assist from Lydia McCaleb (Loganton, PA/Central Mountain) and Laura Schaefer (Erie, PA/General McLane) at the 58:50 mark. McCaleb took the corner kick that was sent off the head of Schaefer to Donohue, who poked it in for a 1-0 lead.

Ten minutes later, Lonergan was able to sneak one past goalie Ania Gorski (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek) to even the score at 1-all and force overtime.

Oswego State, who fired off 21 shots for the game, blasted a pair of shots in the first 1:11 of overtime and got the second to go in for the game winner by Restante. Gorski had the initial save on the direct kick taken and the Lakers managed to finish the rebound in the box for the win.

Gorski matched her season high with eight saves for the Lions.

Behrend returns to action tomorrow against the hosts Fredonia at 1:30 p.m.
