Oberlander Breaks Single-Season Goals Record; Lions Shut Out Hilbert

ERIE, Pa. – Jordan Oberlander (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) scored a pair of goals to break the program record for most goals in a season with 22, leading the Penn State Behrend women's soccer team past Hilbert 4-0 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Tuesday night.

Oberlander entered the game ranked third in NCAA Division III statistics with 20 goals and on her second of the game at the 57th minute, she broke the 22-year old record set back in the program's first year as a varsity sport (1995). It also marked the 10th straight game Oberlander has scored at least one goal.

The Lions (10-4, 5-0 AMCC) fired off the most shots in a game this season with 38 to remain undefeated against the Hawks (2-9-1, 2-4 AMCC) and in conference play. Jenna Castricone made 16 saves for Hilbert to keep Behrend to just four goals, two in each half.

Ashlyn Whipple (Washington, PA/Canon McMillan) and Cassidy Ulanowicz (Gibsonia, PA/Pine-Richland) each added a goal and an assists in the win.

Oberlander started the scoring with a header goal off a free kick taken by Whipple at the 26:59 mark for a 1-0 lead. Less than 10 minutes later, Oberlander managed to get a second goal but it was called back due to offsides.

Whipple then rocketed a shot from 30-yards out off a parallel pass from Sami Lowry (Pittsburgh, PA/Pine-Richland) with 4:28 before halftime to make it 2-0.

Ulanowicz pushed the lead to 3-0 shortly after the second-half kickoff. The freshman was able to beat the Hilbert defender to get in the box, took a touch left and buried a left-footed shot past Castricone.

As the anticipation for a second goal by Oberlander, the senior forward gathered a pass from Ulanowicz in the box. She used her strength and quick touch to maneuver around the defender and blast a left-footed show into the lower left corner of the goal to set a new single-season record.

Ania Gorski (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek) and the defense held the Hawks to a pair of shots.

Behrend returns to action on Saturday against Franciscan. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
