Women's Soccer Falls to Grove City

ERIE, Pa. – The Grove City women's soccer team scored a goal in each half, getting the game winner in the 68th minute to defeat Penn State Behrend 2-1 in non-conference action on Wednesday night.

Ruby Mattson tallied her second goal of the season for the Wolverines (4-2) off an indirect kick just outside the box, finishing the ball in the upper left corner and out of reach of Ania Gorski (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek) for the game winner.

Jordan Oberlander (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) made it four straight games with a goal, registering her 10th goal of the season on a pass from Olivia Belack (Upper St. Clair, PA/Upper St. Clair).

Grove City struck first just 8:44 after the opening whistle. Elena Guerra drove down the right side and sent a ball across the box to Brooke Thomas for the one-touch shot and a 1-0 lead.

The Wolverines took that lead into halftime but it was short lived thereafter when Oberlander finished a breakaway goal in the 48th minute. Belack sent a long ball up over the defense and Oberlander used her speed and accuracy to get past a charging Trishae Winters.

Lacy Harkrader helped Mattson on the final goal at the 68th minute to get Grove City the final say.

Behrend held a 12-3 advantage in corner kicks with the best opportunity coming off a header by Belack that was blocked.

The Lions return to action Saturday at Pitt-Greensburg. Game time is 3:15 p.m.
