CORTLAND, NY – The Penn State Behrend women's volleyball team fell twice on the first day of the Cortland Red Dragon Classic on Friday night. The Lions dropped a 3-1 decision to Ithaca and 3-0 to Skidmore.
Stefanie Kelley (Moon Township, PA/Moon) tallied 49 digs in two matches, while Kelly Treser (Pittsburgh, PA/Seneca Valley) combined to knock down 18 kills.
The Lions (0-2) took the first set in the four-set match against the Bombers with a score of 25-20. Ithaca grabbed game two 25-21, before the final two sets were decided by just two points. The Bombers picked up the win with a 26-24 final in the third and 25-23 score in the fourth. Mary Sperry (Atlantic, PA/Conneaut Lake) added 24 digs, eight kills and three aces.
In game two, Skidmore managed a 25-19, 25-17 and 25-20 victory. Kelley contributed 27 digs and Jessica Woods (Corry, PA/Corry) tallied eight kills and seven blocks.
Behrend will have two matches tomorrow with the first beginning at 10 a.m.
