Lions Drop Two on Day One of Carnegie Mellon Tournament

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Penn State Behrend women's volleyball team lost twice on Friday at the Carnegie Mellon Tournament.  Both DeSales and Mount Union defeated the Lions by a score of 3-0.

Behrend opened up the tournament against DeSales who was riding a nine game win streak. The Bulldogs handled the Lions in three sets, 25-12, 25-12, 25-21. Sarah Jacobs  (Cochranton, PA/Cochranton) led the way for Behrend recording seven kills and tallying two blocks.  Jessica Woods (Corry, PA/Corry) had five kills to push her season total to 97.  Mary Sperry (Atlantic, PA/Conneaut Lake) contributed with 19 digs.  

In the second match of the day, the Lions squared off against Mount Union.  Behrend lost 25-17, 25-22, 26-24.  Chelsea Magnusen (Plum, PA/Plum) continued her strong play by dishing out 19 assists and recording six kills.  Jacobs had six kills and two blocks.  Sperry had 14 more digs to increase her season total to over 150.  Woods hit the century mark in kills by adding four more.  

The Lions will be back in action tomorrow for day two of the tournament.  Behrend will face Scranton at 10 a.m. and conclude with Kings (Pa.) at 2 p.m.
