Volleyball Defeats King's, Falls to Scranton at CMU Invite

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – On the second day of the Carnegie Mellon Invitational, the Penn State Behrend picked up a win against Kings 3-0 after falling to Scranton in a close match, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions handled Kings in three sets, winning 25-20, 25-11, 25-17. Stefanie Kelley (Moon Township, PA/Moon) tallied 11 kills in the win and Alyssa Pears (Meadville, PA/Meadville) made 12 digs. Setter Chelsea Magnusen (Plum, PA/Plum) handed out 28 assists.

In the first match of the day, Scranton tallied the five set victory (25-20, 12-25, 25-18, 23-25, 15-10). After falling in the first set, Behrend won the second with ease before surrendering the third and tying the game at 2-all with a two-point win in the fourth set. Sarah Jacobs (Cochranton, PA/Cochranton) recorded 13 kills and four blocks, while Kelley added 10 kills and 16 digs.

Jess Woods (Corry, PA/Corry) was also in double digit for kills with 10 and Brittany Dhayer (Georgetown, PA/South Side) posted 13 digs.

The Lions return to action on Wednesday against Pitt-Bradford. The game begins at 7 p.m. and will also be televised on the Image Sports Network.
