Allegheny Edges Lions; Behrend Falls to Grove City

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's volleyball team completed the first day of the Allegheny Gator Invitational, falling to the hosts 3-2 in the opening match and then 3-0 to Grove City in the nightcap on Friday evening.

The Lions (4-7) were able to take two sets from Allegheny, including the first 25-14 and the fourth 25-20 to force a fifth set. The Gators won 25-19, 25-16 and in the final set, 15-9. Stefanie Kelley (Moon Township, PA/Moon) recorded 25 digs and six kills, while Sarah Jacobs (Cochranton, PA/Cochranton) posted nine kills and four blocks.

The Wolverines got revenge from dropping a 3-0 decision to Behrend just over a week ago with a 25-14, 26-24 and 25-23 victory. Kelley led again with 22 digs and 11 kills to give her 47 digs and 17 kills for the night. Setter Chelsea Magnusen (Plum, PA/Plum) distributed 30 assists. Jacobs added six kills to go along with her nine from the first match.

The Lions return to action tomorrow against Pitt-Greensburg at 10 a.m. and Frostburg St. at 12 p.m.
