Three Named to All-AMCC Volleyball Team

ERIE, Pa. – Three members of the Penn State Behrend volleyball team were named to the All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) team, announced on Tuesday. Mary Sperry (Atlantic, PA/Conneaut Lake) was named to the first team, while Stefanie Kelley (Moon Township, PA/Moon) and Chelsea Magnusen (Plum, PA/Plum) were chosen to the second team.

Sperry, a junior outside hitter, is earning her third All-Conference nod after being named to the second team in 2010 and an honorable mention in 2009. She led the team and ranked eighth in the conference in kills with 219. Sperry also recorded 408 digs this season, reaching the 1,000-dig plateau for her career on Oct. 4 in a 3-0 win over Hilbert. In that same game, she went 8-for-15 with a 53.3 hitting percentage.  Sperry also tallied nine double-doubles (kills, digs) with a season-best 18 kills against Penn State Altoona in the AMCC Semifinals.

Kelley, a senior outside hitter, is receiving her first All-AMCC honor on the second team. She led the squad and ranked second in the conference in digs with 539. She also was second on the team in assists (42) and aces (26). Kelley tallied a season-high 38 digs in a four-set match against Buffalo State on Sept. 3.

Magnusen, a sophomore setter, is also being recognized for the first time on the All-Conference team. She led the conference in assists, averaging 8.48 a set. Magnusen nearly reached 1,000 assist mark in a season, finishing with 907. She did hit the 1,000 career assist milestone on Oct. 12 in a 3-0 win over D'Youville.

The Lions finished the season 15-16 and advanced to the AMCC semifinals.
