Women's Track and Field Wraps Up Day One of Cortland Classic

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Penn State Behrend women's track and field team wrapped up day one of the Cortland Classic Invitational with three contestants in the top nine of the heptathlon.

Paige Allen (Butler, PA/Butler) is leading the squad in the heptathlon after day one ranking in sixth place with 2,094 points. Allen picked up a victory in the 200m dash earning her 812 points. She ran an ECAC qualifying time of 25.83.

Allen picked up 541 points in the 100m hurdles with a fifth place finish, 352 points with a ninth place finish in the shot put and 389 points with a 17th place finish in the high jump. She ran a 17.50 in the 100m hurdles, leaped to a mark of 4' 2.25" in the high jump and tallied a 23' 10.25" in the shot put.

Allen also competed in the 100m dash prelims as part of the regular track events scheduled on Friday. She won her heat zooming to a time of 12.69. The time was good enough for second place overall.

Kati Piger (Williamsport, PA/Loyalsock) stands in eighth place in the heptathlon racking up 1,896 points. Piger led the team with a fourth place finish in the shot put with a toss of 26' 2.75". She took 10th place in the high jump with jump of 4' 6", 10th place in the 100m hurdles with a time of 18.88 and seventh in the 200m dash. Piger's 200m dash time was clocked at 28.21.

In ninth place in the heptathlon, Rachel Pell (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward) earned 1,863 points in the four Friday events. Pell led the Lions in the 100m hurdles finishing in third with a time of 17.43. She placed sixth in the 200m dash with a sprint of 28.05, 13th in the high jump recording a mark of 4' 4.75", and notched an 18th place finish with a shot put mark of 17' 11.75".

The Cortland Classic continues tomorrow with the final three events in the heptathlon and other regularly scheduled competitions. Events will begin at 10 a.m.
