Allen Sets School Record in the Heptathlon

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Paige Allen (Butler, PA/Butler) set a new school record for the Penn State Behrend women's track and field team in the heptathlon finishing with 3,548 points at the Cortland Classic. Allen took third place overall and added her second victory in the heptathlon winning the 800m run with a time of 2:33.96.

Aside from Allen's win in the 800m dash, she took fourth place in the long jump with a mark of 16'4.5" and ninth in the javelin throw with a heave of 59'3".

Allen also ran in the 100m dash competition that was not part of the heptathlon. She notched a second place finish running a time of 13.04.

Kati Piger (Williamsport, PA/Loyalsock) and Rachel Pell (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward) took 10th and 12th place, respectively in the heptathlon. Piger posted a total score of 2,942 points while Pell earned 2,890 points.

Piger had a strong performance in the javelin throw taking third place. Her toss went for a distance of 72'5". In the long jump she posted an eighth place finish with a leap of 14'11.25" and in the 800m run Piger took 16th place with a time of 3:10.11.

Pell notched 10th, 12th, and 18th place finishes in the final three heptathlon events on Saturday. Her 10th place finish came in the long jump where she was able to hop to a mark of 14'8.75". In the 800m run, Pell recorded a time of 2:49.84, good for 12th place. Pell's javelin throw of 38'2" earned 18th place.

Next on the schedule for the Lions is the annual Penn State Behrend Invitational. The invitational will begin next Saturday at 10 a.m.
