Men's Golf Captures Third AMCC Championship

WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's golf team captured their third Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) on Monday afternoon, carding a two-day total of 600 at the Oak Tree Country Club.

The Lions tallied a 299 on day two, tying the lowest score at the conference championship as a team. Behrend finished with a 17-stroke lead over second-place La Roche. The Redhawks totaled a 317 with the individual medalist in Shane Eichenlaub (147). Penn State Altoona came in third with a 327 score.

Freshman Scott Klein (Erie, PA/Fairview) remained in second place after the first day to take home the runner-up trophy. Klein tied Eichenlaub with a 147 for the tournament thanks to a 74 today, but lost the individual championship title on a play off.

Zack Polanski (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep) and Kevin Koerbel (Gibsonia, PA/Deer Lakes) tied for fourth overall for Behrend. Polanski recorded a 76 on day two and Koerbel took three strokes off his first-day total to finish with a 74 and 151 overall score.

Dante Vetica (Hermitage, PA/Kennedy Catholic), one of three freshmen in the Lions' lineup, was consistent from day one and tallied another 76 for a 162 to tie for seventh overall.

Matt Gurska (Hermitage, PA/Kennedy Catholic) tied for 11th place with a 155. He carded a 79 to go with a 76 from yesterday to help Behrend stay ahead of the field for the title.

Behrend last won the conference crown in 2009 and the first ever back in 2004.
