Klein Dominates Pitt-Bradford Invitational; Lions Win Title

BRADFORD, Pa. – Senior Scott Klein (Fairview, PA/Fairview) started off his final season with the Penn State Behrend men's golf team shooting a four-under par for a team-low score of 68 to win the Pitt-Bradford Invitational on Saturday at Pine Acres CC.

The Lions won the Invitational by four strokes over Elmira. Behrend finished with a 311 total and Elmira was second with 315. Thiel was one stroke behind for third (316) and Westminster rounded out the top four with a 318 score.

Dante Vetica (Hermitage, PA/Kennedy Catholic) tied for 11th overall and finished second on the team with a score of 79. Nick VanDamia (Erie, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) tallied an 81on the par 72 course to tie for 14th place.

Brian Ropiecki (North East, PA/North East) hit +11 on the day to end tied for 17th with a total of 83, while freshman Sean Sculley (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) earned an 84 on his first collegiate outing with Behrend.

Dan Corbin (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) and Ryan Matlock (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) played as individuals in the tournament. Matlock tied VanDamia with an 81 and Corbin matched Sculley with an 84.

The Lions return to action on Sunday, September 14 at the Mt. Aloysius Invitational.
