Local Talent Set to Lead Lions at NCAA Golf Championships

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's golf team will compete at the 2015 NCAA Division III Championships this week at the Grandover Resort, in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Guilford College and the Greensboro Sports Commission will be hosting the 72-hole championship from May 12-15. The competition begins at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday. After 36 holes of competition, the field will be cut to the top 15 teams and top six individuals not on one of those teams.

The Lions are making their fourth straight trip to the NCAA Tournament after winning their fourth consecutive Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) title this fall. Nicholas VanDamia (Erie, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) was the individual medalist at the AMCC Championships with a two-day score of 145 while Dante Vetica (Hermitage, PA/Kennedy Catholic) was AMCC Runner Up with a 147.

A total of 210 participants will compete at the 2015 championships. Behrend was one of 32 conferences awarded automatic qualification for the championships. Along with VanDamia and Vetica, Scott Klein (Fairview, PA/Fairview), Brian Ropiecki (North East, PA/North East) and Cody Stinson (Erie, PA/Harbor Creek) complete the five competing for the Lions.
