Klein Wins Mercyhurst Spring Invite; Lions Place Third

NORTH EAST, Pa. – Senior Scott Klein (Fairview, PA/Fairview) won the Mercyhurst Spring Invitational with a two-day total of 147, helping the Penn State Behrend men's golf team finish third overall with a score of 609.

Klein, who led after day one with a 71, came back to fire a 76 to remain out front and on top for the Lions.

The Lakers finished first in the team scoring with a 601 followed by Humber with 608 and Behrend in third at 609. Gannon was fourth (611), Carnegie Mellon was fifth (615), Daemen in sixth (626) and Mercyhurst B team in seventh (650).

Nicholas VanDamia (Erie, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) was the runner up for the tournament, ending one stroke behind Klein with a 148. He tallied a 74 on both days to place second overall.

Dante Vetica (Hermitage, PA/Kennedy Catholic) finished third on the team and 12th overall with a 152. He added a score of 78 to yesterday's 74. Brian Ropiecki (North East, PA/North East) shaved two strokes off day one (84) to card an 80 and tie for 32nd place with a 164.

Alex Shindledecker (Erie, PA/McDowell) completed the lineup for the Lions with a 167 tournament total. He shot an 85 today and an 82 on Sunday.

Individually, Cody Stinson (Erie, PA/Harbor Creek) had a two-day score of 169 for 39th overall.
