Golfers Win Hilbert Invitational For Fifth Straight Year

BUFFALO, NY – For the fifth straight year, the Penn State Behrend men's golf team won the Hilbert Invitational with a season-low score of 302 on Monday afternoon.

The Lions carded their best total this season heading into the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championships this weekend. Casey Courneen (Sewickley, PA/Quaker Valley) and Scott Klein (Fairview, PA/Fairview) tied for first-place overall with a low score of 72. Courneen took home the medal on a scorecard playoff.

Mt. Aloysius came in second with a 326 and the Behrend second team participating was one stroke off with a 327 for third place overall.

Dante Vetica (Hermitage, PA/Kennedy Catholic) finished third on the squad with a 77 and Dan Corbin (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) tallied an 81 in the fifth spot on the lineup card. Sean Sculley (Waterford, PA/Mercyhurst) posted the last score with an 87.

For the third-place team was led by Ryan Matlock (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst). The newcomer registered a 76 for the 18-hole course. Alex Shindledecker (Erie, PA/McDowell) was second on the team with an 83 and Brian Ropiecki (North East, PA/North East) carded an 84 on the day.

Cody Stinson (Erie, PA/Harbor Creek) tied Ropiecki with an 84, while Brad Cypher (Evans City, PA/Seneca Valley) finished the group with an 86.

The Lions return to action on Sunday at the AMCC Championships at Oak Tree Country Club in West Middlesex, Pa.
