BRIDGEPORT, Pa.  – Freshman Brian Shapter has been named the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week. This is the first time he has earned the honor.

Shapter tallied 12 saves and posted a 1-1 record in goal for the Lions. The freshman made five saves against Mercyhurst and added seven in a 12-11 win over Washington & Jefferson on Saturday. Shapter has a total of 88 saves and 19 steals on the season.

Freshman Sam Hyrne and sophomore Colin McGarry were selected to the CWPA Rookie and Player of the Week Honor Rolls, respectively. Hyrne tallied two goals vs. W&J, while McGarry netted five goals in the win and scored another against Gannon on Sunday.

The Lions return to action tomorrow in California for the Convergence Tournament. Behrend faces Caltech at 1 p.m.
