NEW LONDON, Conn.  – The fifth-seeded Penn State Behrend water polo team traveled to Connecticut College to compete in the Division III Eastern Championships this weekend. The Lions fell three times on the afternoon.

In the first game, Behrend fell 24-5 to top-seeded Johns Hopkins. Chris Dunleavy made nine saves, while Nick Loukides scored a pair of goals. Colin McGarry, Ali Khan and Sam Hyrne each tallied one goal apiece. The Lions were able to net three goals in the first quarter to make it 7-3, but the Blue Jays scored six goals in the second to take a 13-3 lead at half.

Against MIT, the Engineers only allowed four goals while scattering 18 among four quarters for the victory. Same four players scored for the Lions, each netting one goal. Dunleavy added five saves onto his total for the afternoon.

The final game of the day proved to be low scoring unlike the first two. Washington & Jefferson edged the Lions 7-6 to post its second win this season over Behrend. The Presidents’ goalie made 12 saves to key the victory. Hyrne scored a team-best four goals and Dunleavy had seven saves.

The Lions return to action tomorrow at 1 p.m. in the fourth-place match.
