Men's Water Polo Drops Two at Navy Open

ANNAPOLIS, Md.  – The Behrend men’s water polo team dropped two games to start the season at the Navy Open on Saturday in Annapolis, Maryland. The Lions fell to the hosts 19-4 and then 17-7 to George Washington.

Navy came out blazing in the first quarter and outscored the Lions (0-2) 9-1 for the early lead. The Mids recorded 10 more goals in the second quarter to put the game away. Ali Khan netted two goals for Behrend, while Sam Hyrne and Colin McGarry added a goal apiece.

Brian Shapter, making his first collegiate appearance in the net, made three saves against Navy.

In the nightcap, Behrend was able to generate more offense and put seven goals up on the scoreboard. George Washington took a 10-1 lead at halftime and made the final margin a 10-goal game. McGarry had a pair of goals for the Lions. Shapter recorded five stops in the cage.

Behrend returns to action tomorrow against Lindenwood and Vanguard on the second day of the Navy Open. Game times are 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
