ERIE, Pa. – Sophomores Alyssa Samarco (Plum, PA/Plum), Meredith Snyder (Parker, PA/Allegheny Clarion) and freshman Hannah Saunders (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward) have been named to the 2014 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Women's Volleyball Team, announced on Wednesday.

Samarco and Snyder made their way onto the first team after earning second-team honors a year ago. Samarco led the team and ranked second in the conference with 377 kills. She also ranks second in aces per set (0.44) and is sixth in digs with 455. Samarco has posted 23 double-doubles in 31 matches, including the last nine contests. She registered season bests at Franciscan with 20 kills and five aces, while making 25 digs against Fredonia.

Snyder, the 2013 Newcomer of the Year, was a versatile player for the Lions this season. She ranked second on the team in kills (275) and in assists (250), while leading in blocks with 80. Snyder recorded a career-high six aces against D'Youville and recently tallied a career-best 15 digs in the AMCC semifinals. She averaged 2.31 kills and 2.10 assists per set, while registering five double-doubles. Snyder is just one kill away from reaching the 500 mark.

Saunders was the starting setter for Behrend this season. She amassed 889 assists in 31 matches to rank her third in the conference in assists per set (7.60). Saunders also posted 212 digs, 77 kills, 38 blocks and 14 aces. Her best three-set total was 35 assists in the season opener against Carlow. Saunders season best was 46 assists against Mt. Aloysius. She tallied five double-doubles, including 26 assists and a season-high 19 digs against Thiel.

Behrend finished fourth overall in the AMCC and received the No. 5 seed for the ECAC South Region Tournament. The Lions will travel to No. 4 Bethany in first-round action tonight at 7 p.m.
