Men's Golf Take Lead at AMCC Championships

WARREN, Ohio – The Penn State Behrend men's golf team had four golfers in the Top 10 to take the lead with a score of 313 after day one of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championships held at Avalon Lakes Country Club.

The Lions are in first place with a seven-point lead. La Roche is second (320), while Penn State Altoona and Pitt-Bradford are tied for third (334). Pitt-Greensburg sits in fifth place and Medaille is 10 strokes ahead with a 347. Mt. Aloysius, Hilbert and D'Youville round out the final three teams.

Junior Ryan Matlock (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) is the top finisher for day one, carding a tournament-low score of 75. He tallied a 39 on the front nine and tied for the best score on the back with a 36 to hold the lead heading into the final day tomorrow.

Junior Sean Sculley (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) is on the heels of Matlock and is tied for second with one stroke ahead at 76. He recorded a 39 on the front to match Matlock and then posted a 37 on the back.

Junior Alex Shindledecker (Erie, PA/McDowell) and senior Cody Stinson (Erie, PA/Harbor Creek) are tied for 10th with a score of 81. Stinson registered a 41 on the way out and a 40 on the way back in for an 81. Schindledecker, the 2015 AMCC Runner Up, is six strokes out of first place. He recorded a 39-42 for his score of 81.

Sophomore Noah Kunst (Kittanning, PA/Kittanning) finished tied for 30th place with a 91 (45-46).

Behrend is looking to make it six straight AMCC Championships tomorrow for the final day of competition.
