Men's Golf Captures Sixth Straight AMCC Championship; Sculley Wins Individual Medalist

WARREN, Ohio – The Penn State Behrend men's golf team won their sixth straight and eighth overall Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championship with a 630 two-day total on Monday at Avalon Lakes Country Club in Warren, Ohio.

Junior Sean Sculley (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) won his first individual championship after carding a 76 on day one and a low score of 74 for the second round and a 150 total. Sculley matched his low for the tournament with a 37 on the front and back nine to pull ahead and win individual medalist honors.

The Lions had an 11 stroke difference between second-place La Roche (641). Behrend registered a 313 on day one and a 317 on the final day to hoist the championship trophy. Penn State Altoona was third (658) and Pitt-Bradford fourth (666).

Junior Ryan Matlock (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) was the runner up with a two-day total of 152. He had the top score on Sunday with a 75 and then fired a 77 (38-39) today to finish behind Sculley.

Cody Stinson (Erie, PA/Harbor Creek), who was tied for 10th after day one, moved up three spots to tie for seventh overall. He added an 82 to yesterday's 81 for a 163 total.

Junior Alex Shindledecker (Erie, PA/McDowell) tied for 13th overall with three other golfers with a score of 166. He shot an 85 (45-40) for his second round to combine with an 81 for his total. Sophomore Noah Kunst (Kittanning, PA/Kittanning) went from shooting a 91 to having the seventh-best score of the day with an 84 (43-41) to finish tied for 24th with a 175.

With the win, the Lions earn the AMCC's automatic bid to the 2017 NCAA Tournament to be held May 16-19 at the Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida.
