Men's Golf Set to Compete at NCAA Division III Championships

ROCHESTER, NY – The Penn State Behrend men's golf team will compete at the 2017 NCAA Division III Championships this week at the Mission Inn Resort & Club, in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida from May 16-19.

The Lions are making their seventh overall and sixth straight trip to the NCAA Tournament after winning their sixth consecutive Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) title this fall. Sean Sculley (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) was the individual champion at the AMCC Championships with a two-day total of 150. Ryan Matlock (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) was the runner-up medalist at the conference tournament with a 152 score. Joining Sculley and Matlock will be Cody Stinson (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek), Alex Shindledecker (Erie, PA/McDowell) and JT Kuchnicki (Pittsburgh, PA/Montour).

Oglethorpe and Central Florida Sports Commission will be hosting the 72-hole championship. The competition begins tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. After 36 holes of competition, the field will be cut to the top 15 teams and top six individuals not on one of those teams. A total of 215 participants will compete at the 2017 championships. Behrend was one of 33 teams to be awarded automatic qualification for the championships.
