Golf Ties for 29th at NCAA Championships

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fl. – The Penn State Behrend men's golf team tied for 29th place out of 42 teams at the 2017 Division III Championships at the Mission Inn Resort & Club and the El Campeon Golf Course on Wednesday.

The Lions finished seven places higher than last year's team with a total of 646 for the championships. The top 18 teams advance to the final two rounds. Huntingdon remains in the lead with a score of 584, while Wittenberg moved into second (588) and Guilford is in third (593).

Sean Sculley (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) finished the championships with a two-day total of 155 to place tied for 75th overall. After leading the Lions on day one with a 72, he came back to shoot an 83 (39-44) and birdied five holes including three on the front nine. Sculley led the field with 10 birdies over the last two days.

Alex Shindledecker (Erie, PA/McDowell) led Behrend on day two with a 40 on the front and 36 on the back for a team-low score of 76. He eagled hole 14 and added two birdies on the day. Shindledecker's two-day score is 169 to place tied for 181st.

Ryan Matlock (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) was third on the team and tied for 174th overall with a total of 167. He fired an 83 (41-42) on day two with one birdie for 11 over par.

Cody Stinson (Erie, PA/Harbor Creek) hit a 46 on the front nine and 41 on the back nine for an 87 the second round. He finished tied for 179th place at the tournament with a two-day score of 168.

JT Kuchnicki (Pittsburgh, PA/Montour) tallied a 94 on his final day at the NCAA Championships, getting a score of 42 on the front and 52 on the back. He earned a 174 over the course of the tournament to tie for 199th place.
