Lions Defeated Twice at the Gary Troyer Tournament

LA VERNE, Ca, - The Penn State Behrend men's water polo team dropped two games on Saturday in the Gary Troyer Tournament. In game one,the Lions (2-8) were defeated by Occidental (4-15) by a score of 12-2. In a rematch of a thrilling game the previous night, Caltech (6-9) defeated Behrend, 11-4.

In the first game of the day, Occidental jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before Matthew Johnson (Houston, TX/Cypress Falls) struck for the Lions first goal of the day with 4:13 left in the first quarter.

Occidental kept the pressure on the Lions early heading into half-time with a 9-1 lead. Alex Chasar (North Wales, PA/North Penn) scored early in the third quarter at the 7:31 mark to chip into the Occidental lead. Three more fourth quarter goals by Occidental sealed the victory.

In game two of the doubleheader, Caltech avenged their previous two losses to the Lions this season. Caltech lead early and never looked back heading into half-time with a 7-0 lead. Troy Valkusky (Drifton, PA/Hazleton) broke the scoring drought for Behrend notching a goal at the end of the third quarter.

Justin Vink, (Los Angeles, CA/Granada Hills Charter) Carson Williamson (Stockton, CA/Franklin-Stagg) and Morgan Harris (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler) all contributed goals in the fourth quarter to end on a strong note.

Ty Elder (Brentwood, CA/Heritage) made 27 saves in the doubleheader and recorded two steals as he continues to play well in the net.

The Lions will travel to Salem for their conference opener next Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
