Lions Travel to Princeton for CWPA Championships

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's water polo team travels to Princeton this weekend for the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Championship. The Lions (2-16) are the 11 seed in the tournament and take on the No. 2 seed Navy and the No. 7 seed Mercyhurst.

Behrend is led this season by seniors John Ingari (York, PA/Central York), Justin Vink (Los Angeles, CA/Granada Hills Charter), Matthew Johnson (Houston, TX/Cypress Falls) and Nick Pabich (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest). Vink and Johnson are first and second on the squad with 32 and 31 goals respectively.

Behrend takes on Navy in their opening match. The Lions were defeated by the Midshipmen 19-6 on September 7th at the Navy Invitational. Vink and Johnson both scored twice in the loss.

In their second match-up Behrend is set to take on local rival Mercyhurst. Mercyhurst defeated the Lions twice this season once at home and once on the road. The second game on October 26th was a close low-scoring affair that ended in a 9-6 score in favor of the Lakers.

The Lions play Saturday at 9 a.m. and 12:45 p.m.
