Men's Water Polo Announces Team Awards

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's water polo team announced its team award winners for the 2014 season.

Senior Justin Vink (Los Angeles, CA/Granada Hills Charter) earned the team's MVP award. He led the team with 34 drawn kickouts and was second on the team with 37 goals. Vink also tabbed 17 assists and 12 steals. He finished his career in the Top Ten in numerous statistical categories. Vink is tied for the all-time mark in assists (61) and second in field blocks (24). He also ranks fifth with 83 goals and 89 drawn kickouts and sixth in kickouts. Freshman Morgan Harris (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler) was selected as the team's Most Improved Player. Harris played in 21 games and recorded three steals to go along with two goals.

The Rookie of the Year Award went to Troy Valkusky (Drifton, PA/Hazleton). The freshman played in every game and scored 11 goals, notched 10 steals and added seven assists.

Senior Matthew Johnson (Houston, TX/Cypress Falls) earned the Sportsmanship/Leadership Award. Johnson led the squad with 42 goals, and ranked second with 29 drawn kickouts. He snatched 21 steals and recorded 16 assists. Johnson leaves the program third all-time in assists (54), fourth all-time in goals (100) and steals (128) and seventh in drawn kickouts (67). He is also the team's Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) representative.

The Lions finished the year on a two-game winning streak and look forward to using that as momentum going into next season.
