ERIE, Pa. – For the third straight season, the Penn State Behrend women's basketball team earned a bid to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Region Tournament.
The sixth-seeded Lions (17-10), who are making their 10th ECAC and 13th overall postseason appearance, will travel to No. 3 Washington & Jefferson (20-8) in first-round action on Wednesday night. Time of the game is to be announced.
Behrend has advanced to the ECAC South Semifinals the last two years, but falling short of their third overall ECAC title. The Lions won the championship in 1991-92 and in 1995-96.
Behrend and Washington & Jefferson met for the first time this season since 2005-06 with the Presidents squeezing out a one-point victory in the championship game of the Lions' Tip-Off Tournament on Nov. 18. With the win, W&J now holds a slight 16-15 edge in the all-time series.
The Lions are coming off a loss in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championship game to La Roche, 63-58, while the Presidents fell in the PAC championship game to Thomas More, 72-59.
The winner will advance to the highest-remaining seed this weekend in hopes for a chance at the ECAC South Region Title.
